Decades of events and traditions — the free youth shoot, the wild game banquet, pheasant hunts, archery and clays, and the conservation work that keeps the grounds thriving. Here's a sense of what a year looks like here.
Our largest undertaking and #1 community outreach. What started in 2012 with roughly 50 youth from surrounding communities now serves over 300 parents and children each year, made possible by 60+ club volunteers. Free, safe, and supervised — a hands-on introduction to the shooting sports.
Known as the "Best Game Feed Around." Each year the club gathers for a banquet where our chef turns members' harvested game into a feast — proof that, in the right hands, any wild animal can taste delicious. Donations from the small game hunt help stock the table.
The club's first annual pheasant hunt was held in January 2009 at the Pheasantview Game Farm in Goodhue. Twenty-two members attended and harvested 78 pheasants — many of which were served at the Cabin Fever Fun Night. The hunt has been a member-and-family tradition every fall since.
Open to members and the public, the annual 3-D shoot runs a walking course of 30 targets spread across the 118-acre property. The archery range — featuring a 20-foot tower — was completed by members in 2005 and has anchored the event ever since.
Sporting clays began at the club in 1993 with the purchase of manual traps. Today it runs every Thursday evening from May through mid-September, plus selected Sunday afternoons in winter — a fun, non-competitive 10-station course that changes every week.
The club has hosted Envirothon events — outdoor, hands-on learning for high school students across five stations: soils, wildlife, water resources, forestry, and current environmental issues, each staffed by subject-matter professionals.
Members have steadily improved the land: the 2003 Riverbank Restoration Project controlled erosion along the Zumbro, selective logging was completed in 2007, and the club maintains its roadside ditches twice yearly. Habitat work continues with input from the Minnesota DNR.
Each winter the Board opens club property to a shotgun-only small game hunt — rabbit, squirrel, grouse, and crow. Geared toward youth but open to all members, with harvested game donated toward the wild game feed.
